Introduction
Hello everyone! Today I am going to tell you about a famous scientist called Sir Isaac Newton. He discovered gravity and the three laws of motion. So, enjoy!
Isaac Newton
Isaac Newton was a scientist who studied physics and astronomy.
He was born on Christmas day (Cool!) 1642 but, sadly he was born too early and was so small he was not expected to survive but, he did!!!!
But, the Newtons sorrows were not over. Three months before he was born his father passed away. When Newton was young, his mother remarried to a man called Barnabas Smith but, when she went to live with him she left Newton with his family at home so, Newton was brought up by his grandmother. When Newton’s mother, Hannah, came back he still never forgave her for leaving him as a child.
When Newton was 12 he was sent to a grammar school because he was a smart boy. His mother wanted him to take over the family farm but, luckily, Newton’s uncle stepped in and persuaded Hannah to let Newton continue his education.
In 1661 Newton went to Trinity College in Cambridge. During the first three years he served as a waiter and cleaner to pay for his studies but he did so well in class he was made a scholar, this meant that for the next four years he would get funding for his studies!
After four years, Newton graduated but sadly the plague was spreading across London. To be safe from the plague Newton was sent back home. While he was there he studied light and found out that white light was actually made out of all the colours of the rainbow! He figured out how to split it by using a prism. He carried out his light experiments in a very dark room so he could get the exact results. This was an amazing discovery but, Newton was yet to find out more about the world while he was at his home.
Legend has it, one day Newton was sitting under a tree thinking (I know, just thinking!) when an apple fell on his head. This made if think about why the apple fell down instead of up or sideways. Finally Newton came to the conclusion that there must be an invisible force pulling from the core of the earth making the object go down.
Newton found out many things in his lifetime but they would be too much for your head to hold so, let’s just be thankful there was a genius like him to help the world move into the stage it is at now.
More about Gravity
I thought you would want to know about more about gravity so, I will explain. A object with bigger mass has a bigger amount of gravity. If I where to grow a million times in size lots of things would be pulled towards me.
To make gravity easier to understand imagine the universe is a blanket and if you put a bowling ball in it and pretend it is the Earth, then the blanket will curve and then if you add marbles to be us and everything else on Earth they will gather around the ball won’t they.
So there is your explanation. The bigger the ball the more curves it makes on the blanket.
Ending
I really hope you liked this blog and you are amazed my the work by Isaac Newton but, there are other great scientist too. We may go over them in other posts but, until then, have a great week!
